Explicit Requirements

The device must be portable.

The total project budget cannot exceed $1200.

The retracted area of the device must not exceed 2 ft2.

The robot must use a dedicated power supply.

The window and associated surfaces cannot be damaged in the process.

No infrastructure external to the robot may be installed.

The device must wash the entire surface of 5’x6’ window at a rate of at least 10 ft2/minute.

The robot must be able to cross both a vertical and a horizontal barrier.

There should be no streaking or wetness visible on the window within 30 seconds of the end of test.

The robot will know when it has completed the task and stop cleaning at that point.

All cleaning fluids must be kept on board the robot.

The robot should either know where the boundaries are or be able to determine the boundaries using sensing control.

Major components including power, cleaning mechanism, and electronics must be modular.

The robot must adhere to a window for 3 minutes or the maximum length of cleaning.

The robot must be able to go over a 17 mm thick obstacle in any direction.

The robot must have a start up and finishing sequence. There must be some way for the robot to convey it has finished its sequence.

Any cleaning agent applied must evaporate or be wiped away before streaking occurs.
